The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), established in 1974 in Bangalore which is the capital of Karnataka, is one of the central institute for mental health and neurosciences. The university offers degrees in under graduate, post graduate, doctoral and diploma& fellowship levels with its programs in clinical and specialty nursing practice, clinical and counseling psychology, clinical psychiatry, and Ph.D.

 

It is entrance based and for MD, DM (6 years), and M.Ch (6 years) programs qualifying examination called as INI CET and for DM (3 years) and M.Ch (3 years) programs its called INI SS. The institute is well acknowledged for its patient care, education and innovations missions in mental health and neurosciences, which is a tripartite vision.

Hostel

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences in Bengaluru provides most of the hostels for its students. Boys’ hostel includes 81 single bed accommodations, 18 cubicles, four dormitories other than the offices, and some storerooms. The girls’ hostel is called Cauvery Hostel has an accommodation capacity of 179 trainees with 110 rooms that include single and double bed occupancy

most of the rooms are fitted with an attached bathroom. Also on the same compound we have the Kabini Hostel with accommodation to as ssingle occupancy of 192 with six floors. Hostel charges vary between 5,000/- to 6,000/- annually. The latest measures allow mess services to become compulsory, the fees for which are to be taken from the allowances or non-allowance students. This transformation has elicited positive reactions among the residence and negative reactions among the residents.
