AIQ vs State counselling

Features AIQ Counselling (All India Quota) State Counselling (State Quota)

Documents required Aadhaar, mark sheets, photo, NEET result, ID etc. Along with these, domicile certificate is also mandatory
Permission to leave the seat You cannot give up your seat after the second round of counselling. In some states, there is an exit option even after Round 2

1st Round Process Of Counselling

  • The online registration on the MCC or state portal begins after the NEET result.
  • There are choice filling students, who attend colleges.
  • The process of seat distribution is done on priorities in rank and the choices made by the candidate during counselling.
  • A student will need to visit the assigned college and complete the process of document verification and admission confirmation.
  • In case you reject the seat, you will be able to continue the game round after round.

2nd Round Process Of Counselling

  • Students who have not had a chance to participate in Round 1 or that had their seat not been upgraded, can participate in it.
  • New registration and selection of choices must be made.
  • The seats in Round 1 are upgradable as well.
  • It is not possible to leave the seat after Round 2 (in AIQ).
  • Once you have got a seat in a Round 2, failure to report may result in being out of the subsequent rounds.

Mop-up Round (Specially For Deemed Universities And Private Colleges)

  • Students who have failed to show up in any of the previous rounds or never received a seat would be allowed to take part in this one
  • MCC does not have a round of government seats in AIQ, it is only in the case of Deemed Universities.
  • Mop-up round in state counselling may be both government and private college wise.
  • That is the final opportunity to reserve a large seat.

Tips For College Choice Filling

Check Previous Year Cut-Off Reports

  • One must be aware of what was the previous allotted rank of that college last year. This will serve to inform you as to whether your college ranking will be able to be accepted in such a college or not.

  • Top colleges such as AIIMS, MAMC, JIPMER have very high cut-offs, whereas, some of the new colleges, or the ones which are privately managed have low cut-offs.

  • The MCC and State Counselling portals publish the Round-wise, Category-wise, and Institutes-wise cut-off PDFs and go through them properly.

Clear All Doubts Before Locking Your Choices

  • The modifiable changes occur only over a period of few days in filling choice.
  • Your options will be locked once made, so they cannot be removed.
  • It is therefore necessary that you crosscheck all these things: Cut-off, Fee structure, Bond policy (in some states, any government service after MBBS is a must)
  • Hostel facility
  • Language or state requirement (e.g. knowledge of local language is necessary in a given state)
  • Do consult family, seniors, career counsellors or doctors.
